This authentic, hand-written vellum leaf has twenty six lines of Scripture text that are ruled in a faint red ink, written in black ink in a handsome gothic bookhand.
This Book of Hours was written in Normandy around 1450, (use of Coutances). The ownership of the book is attributed to Seigneur Richard du Mesnildot, Provost Royal of Coutances, 1489. The text is from the beginning of the book, the story of the Annunciation from Luke.
The vellum leaf is in very good condition. There are traces of aging including, soiling, wrinkling, stains and modern pencil foliation. |
