Mike's Bibles

A Roman letter, early KJV Bible in quarto size The Holy Bible. Cambridge: Thomas and John Buck, printers to the Univeristie, 1637. Quarto, calf with raised bands and 8 ribbon markers. Sometime rebacked with a shelf number in gold on the spine; the calf on the front cover is about 2/3 gone; the front board is splitting about half way down but sound. The rear board has an embossed stamp from the Hampstead Public Libraries and the remaining calf is rather cracked and worn or flaked off around the edges. All edges gilt (worn). There is a paste down inside the front cover and stamp on the back of the title page also from the library. The general title page is not present and has been replaced with the New Testament title, with the top section cut out and replaced with a hand written verse, "The night is far spent...." Romans 13.12. There are a couple of neat repairs to small tears, and there is a page with a small hole affecting a few letters, but otherwise it appears to be textually complete in modern type, sound and would look fine on a shelf. 9" x 6 1/2"
