This is a World War II Army field bible, issued in 1941. The small, brown cloth-bound bible is impinted in faded gold print on the front cover with "New Testament, Protestant Version, Presented by the Army of the United States" along with the seal of the United States of America War Office.
On the first page is a printed statement from The White House, Washington, dated March 6, 1941, with the stamped signature of Franklin D. Roosevelt. On the next page, which is titled "Presented to", the name of Ernest Andrews Jr., 803 Fairmount Ave., Signal Mountain, Tennessee, is handwritten, along with the name of the nearest kin, E. A. Andrews.
The bible is a compact 3-1/4 x 5-1/4 x 3/4" and in very good condition with no torn or missing pages, no spots, just a little edge wear on the cover and, as indicated above, the print on the cover is hard to read because it has mostly worn off. |
